Vintage Art Nouveau table mirror in pewter and amboyna burl, 1910

This unique table mirror in pewter, mother-of-pearl and burr amboyna is of French origin and dates from the early 20th century. The ornamental motifs of the piece, inspired by nature - butterflies, climbing vegetation - are enhanced by the iridescence of the mother-of-pearl and underline the contrast between the pewter and the burr amboyna, a precious wood often used for exceptional pieces. This mirror is a perfect testimony to the Art Nouveau movement that emerged at the end of the 19th century in reaction to the increasing industrialization that followed Europe's second industrial revolution.
