Vintage curved mahogany and jatoba desk by Jules Wabbes for Le Mobilier Universel, Belgium 1958

Designed by Jules Wabbes and manufactured by Le Mobilier Universel in Belgium in the late 1950s, this desk embodies structured charm. Its solid chrome-plated steel frame blends perfectly with the pronounced grain of the mahogany and jatoba. The drawers, with discreet handles on their sides, support a sturdy, steam-curved worktop. Each of these handles is adorned with Wabbes' signature. With ingenuity, Jules Wabbes has revealed interior elements that are usually concealed, complimenting the desk's remarkable construction. Jules Wabbes (1919 - 1974) is considered one of the precursors of modern design in Belgium. Inspired by American designers such as Edward Wormley, he favored solid wood for his creations, giving them a luxurious appeal and timeless sophistication.
