Table Lamp D36 “Agaricon” by Ross Lovegrove for Luceplan, Italy 1999

For sale is an iconic orange D36 “Agaricon” table lamp, designed by Ross Lovegrove in 1999 for LucePlan of Italy. Light and semi-transparent, the Agaricon (Greek for mushroom) is switched on and off by touching an aluminium sensor ring that runs around the outer edge of the lamp's shade. Running the finger along that rim regulates the modulation of light intensity and acts as a dimmer. The body and lid are made of high-pressure injection-moulded polycarbonate. The lamp is in superb vintage condition and in perfect working order. The only issue of note is that two of the three small plastic clips that would have originally secured the top plate to the rest of the lamp are missing. This is only an issue if the lamp is tipped upside down, without holding on to the top, otherwise the plate sits snugly in the base. The Agaricon which is included in Charlotte & Peter Fiell’s book, “1000 Lamps” and featured in many museum design collections is already a lighting classic and makes quite a statement. Ross Lovegrove is one of the world’s most acclaimed and influential designers best known for utilising the latest technology to create futuristic, organic forms; he has applied his signature style to everything – from computers and bicycles to fragrance bottles, chairs to lighting, bathroom sets to speakers, aircraft seats and staircases to concept cars. Along the way, Ross has also helped shape products for Sony, Apple, and LVMH, among many others. His designs can be found within the permanent collections of MoMA, the Centre Pompidou and the Vitra Design Museum, and have previously been exhibited in the Design Museum in London, as well as the Guggenheim Museum and Philips De Pury in New York.
