About this vintage design furniture

Antique abedeh rug with the classic zili sultan "vase and peacock" motif. Closely related to the ancient motif of a tree on which two birds land, the zil-i-sultan seems to have been invented in Persia at the end of the 19th century by a court official of the Qadjar dynasty, its name meaning "shadow of the sultan". The colors are based on natural dyes and shimmer on an ivory background. This is a superb example of the type, with soft pure wool, the red ground border is of unusual design and frames the rug well. Note all the little birds in the field pattern surrounding the flower vases. Because of their quality and aesthetic value, abedeh rugs are often considered works of art and are highly sought after by collectors and rug enthusiasts the world over. They represent an important part of Iran's cultural heritage and are a symbol of the traditional craftsmanship and know-how of the abedeh region. A true masterpiece of Persian craftsmanship, these rugs are appreciated for their durability and resistance to wear and tear. Used as floor rugs to bring a warm, colorful touch to both classic and contemporary interiors, they can also be used as wall decorations. Sought-after by collectors, they are a true cultural heritage of Iranian craftsmanship and a sound investment. Reference : 284623
