The Drop vintage pendant lamp by Östen Kristiansson for Luxus, 1960

This Scandinavian suspension lamp "The Drop" was designed by Uno Kristiansson and manufactured for Luxus in 1955 in Sweden. The body of the lamp is made of light green opal glass, water green.The lamp is in very good condition.The lamp is functional and comes with a new Led bulb.The designer brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson are known for their lighting fixtures and mirrors and were particularly active from 1950 to 1970 in Sweden. They were prolific designers with a clear design aesthetic, easily identified as "Scandinavian Modern". Although there is little biographical information about the duo, their work is highly regarded by vintage enthusiasts and highly sought after on the vintage market today.Uno Kristiansson was born in 1925 and Östen two years after him in 1927. Little is known about their education, but it is assumed that they spent their early years in southern Sweden. It was probably their father, who ran his own furniture company (Vittsjö Furniture, started in 1919, named after the Swedish village where it was located), who taught them the business. In 1950, Uno Kristiansson founded his own factory, Luxus, also located in Vittsjö. There he produced indoor and outdoor lamps, furniture and mirrors, designed by the two brothers. Their collections were launched in Sweden and throughout Europe in 1950. In 1968, Luxus introduced a collection of lamps with brightly colored shades that perfectly captured the spirit of the 1960s. They are said to have been designed by the renowned Finnish textile artist Marjatta Metsovaara (1927-2014). Reference : 271172
