About this vintage design furniture

For sale an iconic Pop Art porcelain “Paper Bag" Vase designed by Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala, circa 1977, for Rosenthal’s Studio Line "DO NOT LITTER" range. This example is in good vintage and undamaged condition with some minor marks commensurate with 40+ years of age and use. These vases came in various sizes and forms, in white, brown and this matt sandy coloured finish. Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) was a multitalented design genius, widely considered a leading figure of modern Finnish industrial art. Wirkkala's wide ranging portfolio spans from glass, furniture and product design to sculpture, city planning, art, graphics and even creating banknotes for the Finnish treasury. Throughout his incredibly productive career, Wirkkala received numerous awards including three gold medals at the Milan Triennale, the Lunning Prize, Pro Finlandia Medal and the Prince Eugen Medal. Tapio Wirkkala was a Finnish designer and artist born on June 2, 1915 in Hanko, Finland, and died on May 19, 1985 in Helsinki. He is considered one of Finland's most important designers and left his mark on the history of 20th-century Scandinavian design.
