Set of one salad bowl and 10 vintage stoneware cups by Le Cep, 1970
About this vintage design furniture
The Vine, 1970s 11 piece service. Pyrity brown stoneware service consisting of a large salad bowl and ten cups. Signed in hollow the cep on the reverse of the salad bowl, and stamped France on the reverse of each piece. Set in very good condition (except for a few small chips on two of the cups), superb color and harmony of the pyrite stains. Dimensions: Salad bowl 24, 5 cm diameter 14 cm height. 10 cups 7 cm height 6, 5 cm diameter 9, 5 cm width at the handle. But what is the pyrite sandstone. With stoneware, the color of the ceramic paste can be enough as a decoration. Many natural clays are colored by iron compounds, and some by manganese compounds. Occasionally a stoneware clay will contain pyrite in relatively large granules giving after firing metallic stains.
