Vintage bohemian gold glass vase, Czech 1950
About this vintage design furniture
High-tech enamel decorationThe origin of this unique technology lies at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Pure gold and platinum are used to decorate the glass. They are applied to the glass with a brush in a liquid state and then fired in special electric or gas ovens. After firing, embossed layers in the form of arabesques and floral patterns are gradually applied to the base layer of gold or platinum, which they obtain by repeated firings and the application of further layers on the sculptures. The application and firing process is usually repeated four times, or more for more complex designs.Glass paints are essentially low-melting ground glass. The painter must thoroughly mix the paint with the binder, then apply the paint to the cleaned glass and fire it depending on the type of paint and glass at a temperature of 540 - 580 degrees.
