Vintage wooden work table by Dom Hans van der Laan, Netherlands 1970

A rare work table designed by Dom Hans van der Laan in the Netherlands in the 1970s.Its eye-catching, minimalist design is very recognizable and the Bossche School style, in which it was designed, is part of mid-century Dutch design history. The table is made of wood, manufactured in a very recognizable style. Its top is made of green laminated wood and it is finished with copper nails, which gives it a fantastic style. It comes from a medical practice in the Dutch town of Sint-Michielsgestel. The building was designed in the Bossche school style by the architectural firm Vermeulen in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. We have the original drawings of the architect, as well as photos of the firm.It remains in good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.Dom Hans van der Laan, originator, architect, designer. Benedictine monk and architect Hans van der Laan (1904-1991) may have had a small body of work, but his legacy is highly regarded in the architectural world. Although he designed three monasteries and a private home, it wasn't until the age of 53 that he completed his first real design, the St. Benedictusberg Abbey in Vaals from which this bench is derived. The building was immediately acclaimed as his masterpiece. Most of Van der Laan's life, however, was devoted to conceptualizing form, proportion, and the way humans perceive architectural spaces.
