About this vintage design furniture
Super quality pair of early 1960s oak lounge chairs by Danish designer Erik Wortz for Broderna Andersson. These are early examples (without screw holes), of the later flat pack ‘Kolding’ chair designed by Wortz for IKEA. The organic rich oak framework is enhanced by the quarter-sawn wood and beautiful turned armrests. Complete with original sprung cushions in dark chocolate hopsack weave upholstery with new Pirelli rubber webbing. IKEA launched its first furniture line in 1948 and by the mid-1950s had commissioned Gillis Lundgren, Swedish designer Bengt Ruda and the extremely productive Danish designer of his time, Erik Wørts to come up with new ’Modern Designs’. Wørts designed the ‘Rondell’ chair for IKEA, and also the ‘Kolding’ sofa and armchairs, and the ‘Kastrup’ easy chairs, plus tables and sideboards.
