About this vintage design furniture
The dining chair was originally designed by the Thonet company in 1904, as model No. 28. This is a piece made by the Fischel company under the Thonet licence in Czechoslovakia around 1930. The seat and the circular support underneath is a Thonet design typical of the early 20th century. But the position of the legs in the front and at the back of the seat, together with the very simple shaped backrest was a very adventurous design solution. It meant that actually three legs instead of the usual two supported the backrest. Thanks to this ingenious design, the piece is a visually bold statement made up of only minimally shaped wooden pieces. The chair has been recently completely refurbished to its former glory. Our experienced craftsman has carried the restoration to the highest standard, reviving the beautiful natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest which were subsequently finished by hand in Shellac varnish.
