Vilhelm WOHLERT and Jorgen BO

Vilhelm Wohlert was born on January 10, 1920 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and became an architect. Wohlert was known for his minimalist, functionalist approach to design, emphasizing simplicity and the judicious use of materials. He became particularly famous for his work in lighting design, creating elegant, timeless pieces.

Jørgen Bo was born on November 9, 1922, also in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and developed an interest in furniture design. Bo was renowned for his talent in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture, with particular attention paid to material quality and ergonomics. His creations are characterized by clean lines and skilful use of wood.

Wohlert and Bo began collaborating in the 1950s, pooling their skills and passion for design. Their partnership led to some remarkable achievements, including the design of the famous Louis Poulsen PH5 lamp. This lamp, created in 1958, is a true classic of Danish design, characterized by its inverted bell-shaped shade that diffuses a soft, even light.

In addition to the PH5 lamp, Wohlert and Bo have designed other iconic pieces, such as chairs, tables and shelving, that reflect their shared aesthetic approach based on simplicity, functionality and craftsmanship.

Their work has been widely recognized and exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. Wohlert and Bo have left a significant mark on the history of Scandinavian design, with timeless creations that continue to be appreciated and admired today.
