Jean BESNARD

Jean Besnard studied at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, where he developed his skills as an artist and designer. After graduating, he began working in the ceramics workshop of his father, Maurice Besnard, where he learned traditional pottery techniques.

Throughout his career, Jean Besnard sought to merge art and craft, creating unique pieces that combined functionality with aesthetics. His creations were distinguished by their organic shapes, geometric patterns and bold use of bright colors. He experimented with different glazes and decoration techniques to achieve unique visual effects.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Jean Besnard enjoyed great success as a designer of ceramics and glassware. He collaborated with major French luxury houses, such as Manufacture nationale de Sèvres and Daum crystal works, to create prestigious pieces. His creations were highly appreciated for their artistic quality and elegance, and won numerous awards at international exhibitions.

In addition to his work in ceramics and glassware, Jean Besnard also designed furniture and decorative objects. He was an active member of the Société des artistes décorateurs and took part in major exhibitions and art fairs, such as the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes in Paris.

Jean Besnard's legacy as a designer is significant. His work is exhibited in numerous museums and private collections around the world, and his distinctive style continues to influence contemporary designers.
