Fontana Arte

Fontana Arte is a world-renowned Italian design company. The history of Fontana Arte begins with the Luigi Fontana company in 1881 in Milan. The company then produces glass plates for the building industry. At the end of the 19th century, it produced refined glass decorative objects to order. It was not until 1931, with the arrival of the famous architect Gio Ponti - then director of the magazine Domus - who gave the brand a new turn when he took over the artistic direction of the company. Gio Ponti is a leading figure in Italian design, co-founder of the ADI (Italian Association for Industrial Design), director of the Milan Triennial, lecturer at the Milan Polytechnic and designer of public and private buildings, as well as furniture and objects that will remain in the history of architecture and design. He joined forces with Petro Chiesa to create a separate entity called "Fontana Arte". In the following ultra creative years, Gio Ponti invites the greatest Italian designers to produce their design creations: Max Ingrand, Renzo Piano, Roberto Menghi, Umberto Riva, Gae Aulenti, etc.
