Vintage Swan armchair for Fritz Hansen, 1958

The Swan chair, "Svanen" model 3320, one of the first chairs produced under the term “Organic Modernism", was designed and introduced to the public by Danish icon Arne Jacobsen in 1958. Today the chair is considered one of history’s most iconic pieces of furniture and is still being produced by Fritz Hansen, Denmark - one of the world’s most recognisable producers of design furniture, aimed at both public and private spaces. This specific chair is from pre-1968 and the upholstery is a very dark grey near to black wool fabric hopsack that has replaced the original material, but it is removable to be able to reveal the original quite battered original hopsack. The chair unfortunately has lost its makers sticker and as this piece is believed to be pre 1968 there is no other way to authenticate it other than by Fritz Hansen; a close friend of mine who works for Fritz Hansen authenticated and dated the piece and is happy to authenticate should you have any qualms; the lack of sticker is reflected in the price. In 1958, the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel commissioned Arne Jacobsen to design the Swan Chair and the Egg Chair for its lounges and reception area and ever since Swan Chairs have graced fine lobbies, lounges and homes all over the world. Beside Radisson Collection Royal Hotel Arne Jacobsen also worked on the Bellavista housing project in Copenhagen (1930-1934), the SAS Air Terminal and the unified architectural and interior design scheme for St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. Condition Report: Good condition, the original hopsack underneath the new hopsack cover is in quite bad condition but the new wool hopsack cover is in great condition, there are a few marks as would be expected.
